Sharjah, September 26 – Nepal will script history this weekend when it faces the West Indies in a three-match T20 International series at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates. The opening match is scheduled for Saturday, September 27, followed by the second and third encounters on September 29 and 30.

This is the first-ever bilateral T20I series between the two sides, and it comes against the backdrop of Nepal’s rising cricket profile. For the young Nepali side, led by Rohit Paudel, the contest represents not just an opportunity to play against world-class opposition, but also to measure its progress on the international stage.

A Historic Opportunity for Nepal

Nepal’s cricket journey has been marked by rapid strides over the last decade, with qualification to global tournaments and a growing fan base. Facing the reigning T20 World Champions West Indies is being seen as a landmark moment for the country’s cricketing ambitions.

“We are here to win the series,” said Nepal captain Rohit Paudel in a video message released by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN). “The team has prepared well and we are confident.”

The Nepali squad features a blend of youth and experience, with Dipendra Singh Airee (vice-captain), Kushal Bhurtel, Kushal Malla, Asif Sheikh, Sompal Kami, Karan KC, and Sandeep Lamichhane forming the core group. Rising talents such as Shahab Alam and Sundeep Jora have also been included.

The West Indies squad, captained by Akeal Hosein, boasts global T20 stars including Jason Holder, Kyle Mayers, Fabian Allen, Obed McCoy, and Keacy Carty, making them formidable opponents.

Why This Series Matters

For Nepal, this series is about more than just cricket matches — it is about recognition, exposure, and building belief. Sharjah has traditionally been a second home for Nepali fans in the Gulf, and the atmosphere is expected to be electric as thousands cheer on their national team.

The West Indies, two-time T20 World Cup winners, remain one of the most decorated teams in the format. Their presence alone adds prestige to the series, while for Nepal, every run and wicket will be closely watched as a measure of its international progress.

With official broadcasters now confirmed across multiple regions, fans from Kathmandu to Kingston, Melbourne to Manchester will have access to this historic series.

Road Ahead: T20 World Cup 2026 Qualifiers in Oman

The series against the West Indies also serves as vital preparation for Nepal’s next big challenge — the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers, to be held in Muscat, Oman later in October.

The qualifiers will decide which teams book their spots in the 2026 T20 World Cup, jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka. With a competitive squad and growing international exposure, Nepal will aim to use the Sharjah series as a springboard toward qualification for the global showpiece.
