Thimphu, Bhutan — August 1, 2025
Nepal’s U-20 women’s national football team is back in action — just two weeks after finishing runners-up at the 2025 SAFF U-20 Women’s Championship in Dhaka. With heads held high and hearts full of hunger, the squad now turns its focus to the 2026 AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers, set to take place from August 2 to 10, 2025, at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan.
Drawn into Group A, Nepal faces a tough challenge against defending champions North Korea, hosts Bhutan, and a fast-rising Saudi Arabia side. The group was initially a five-team pool, but Mongolia’s late withdrawal has balanced all groups to four teams each — raising the stakes across the board.

⚔ From SAFF Heartbreak to Asian Redemption
Nepal showed immense potential in the SAFF U-20 Women’s Championship, pushing regional giants Bangladesh all the way before settling for second place. That campaign, though bittersweet, proved one thing — this young team is capable of fighting toe-to-toe with the best in South Asia.
But now, it’s Asia’s elite. The final showdown against North Korea — a powerhouse of women’s football and the defending Asian champions — will be Nepal’s biggest test in years. Even securing a draw or narrow defeat there could be crucial in the battle to be among the three best runners-up, if not the group winner.
🏟 What’s at Stake?
This qualification round is the only phase — no second chances. Only the 8 group winners and 3 best runners-up will qualify for the 2026 AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup, to be held in Thailand from April 1–18, 2026. That tournament will feature 12 teams for the first time, and the top four finishers there will earn a direct ticket to the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
🇳🇵 A Nation Rallies Behind Its Daughters
From the hills of Mustang to the lanes of Bhaktapur, the energy is building. Fans are ready. The flag is waving. And our fearless daughters of Nepal are set to represent not just a country, but a cause — the rise of women’s football.
They may not be favorites. North Korea may be the giants. But Nepal never backs down. This team carries the scars of past battles and the fire of future dreams.
